DRGs and the shift to value-based reimbursement in Dubai

Dubai's move from fee-for-service to Diagnosis Related Groups restructures how hospitals are paid — and how revenue cycles work.

1 min read

Since 1 September 2020, DHA- and DHCC-licensed hospitals submitting inpatient claims on eClaimLink have been required to use Diagnosis Related Groups (DRGs), moving away from fee-for-service for inpatient care.

Under DRGs, patients are grouped by clinical characteristics and expected cost — diagnosis, age, procedures — and the hospital is paid a fixed, prospective package per group rather than line by line. It is a shift from a volume-based model to a value-based one.

For providers, the change is less a billing tweak than a restructuring of revenue cycle, cost management and clinical documentation: accurate coding and complete documentation now determine whether a case is grouped and paid correctly.

DataHub's analytics help teams see where DRG cases are underpaid or mis-grouped, and the Claims Resubmission Workspace lets coders correct and resubmit them without leaving the platform.
